The Wooreen Energy Storage System is a landmark, four-hour, 350 MW utility-scale battery located in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley. Once operational, it will have the capacity to power approximately 230,000 homes, enhancing grid stability and supporting the integration of renewable energy into the Victorian electricity network.

Developed by EnergyAustralia, the project is situated adjacent to the Jeeralang gas-fired power station in Hazelwood North, leveraging existing infrastructure and grid connectivity. The battery technology is being supplied by Wärtsilä Energy.

Zenviron has been engaged directly by EnergyAustralia to deliver the Balance of Plant (BoP) Design and Construct scope for the project’s civil and electrical works. This includes site preparation and earthworks, access roads, equipment foundations, underground cabling, equipment installation, testing and commissioning, as well as construction of a new 220 kV substation and associated transmission infrastructure.

The project is expected to generate up to 250 full-time jobs during construction, delivering significant economic benefits to the Gippsland region.
