In a further sign of the maturing renewable energy industry, some of the pioneers are reaching retirement age. Not forced out by yet another policy-induced downturn, but actually worked out their career in our industry, and are able to retire. As we look to build the renewables workforce, it is great to have these career examples.

The Zenviron team were honoured to raise a toast to one of those people on Thursday evening - one of the true pioneers, and stalwarts of the Australian renewables industry, Mr Dennis Williams. Dennis, who ironically started his career at Eraring power station as a maintenance engineer….will retire just before Eraring does. He began his renewables career working for NEG Micon, which went onto become Vestas, as their Australian representative back in January 1998…likely the first full time wind industry employee in Australia. He was also a foundation board member of AusWind, one of the predecessors to the CEC. After leaving Vestas, Dennis worked for some other wind turbine manufacturers, joining ZEM Energy in 2015 as one of their foundation employees, and was then seconded to Zenviron in 2016. Dennis has had a stellar career in the Australian renewable energy industry, spanning 25 years and 1000s of successful MWs. Dennis is well loved as a font of knowledge on the Australian wind industry – and the glue for the many teams he has pulled together over the years. We wish Dennis the very best in his retirement.
